Aim: Drawing, which is a natural and mostly inherent human response, can be a part of the problem-solving process or an expression of the final product. In the study because of its essence, the act of drawing is considered as a thinking tool-media for design discipline and spatial design. This study aims to create awareness on the spatial designer about the essence of the act of drawing and its semantic-functional features for the design process. It is thought that this awareness will lead to a critical evaluation of the various drawing tools-media in the design process. Method: Thus, the data obtained from the literature surveys are evaluated in this study. Reviews on the act of drawing and drawing tools-media from past to present have been utilized. In here, some studies based on quantitative research methods and expressions belonged to designers and obtained by qualitative research methods are came forward. Results: The data obtained are evaluated by being grouped under the headings of “Conscious of Drawing”, ”Why People Draw?” and “Why Designer-Spatial Designer Draws”. The evaluations aim to reveal the invisible relationships between the acts of Thinking-Design-Drawing for the designers.. In this way, it is seen that it is possible to create a questioning environment about how the spatial designer should perceive and use these tools-media. Conclusion: The study tries to draw attention to the fact that the act of drawing and design are related to thinking and to create meaning instead of a product by means of the data obtained. In the study, the role of drawing for the realization of design as an act of thought is emphasized. In this respect, the tools and environments, which enable the traditional drawing and modern forms of presentation to exist, are critically analyzed. In there It is pointed out that multiple forms of representation involve both of them in order to realize the act of design in terms of the way perceived today.
