Aim: The aim is to present the relationship between interior design atelier and department courses through the students’ perspective and measure and evaluate the effect of department courses on students’ success in design atelier courses. The study is comprised of three stages, which are literature review, the questionnaire and evaluation of success rates. Method: A questionnaire was conducted with twenty-four-year-students receiving education in design atelier in Interior Architecture Department of European University of Lefke. The students were asked to evaluate the relevancy between the courses they have taken in departments and atelier course. Then, student transcripts were examined and it was evaluated and interpreted whether there is parallelism between the success in department and success in design atelier courses. Findings: The questionnaire results have shown that the department courses, which the students relate with design courses, are applied courses, and it’s determined in the examination of success rates that there is parallelism between the success in atelier courses and success in these courses. The courses which students relate to design ateliers, and more effective course contents have also been identified. Conclusion: Relating theoretical courses in interior architecture curriculum to interior design, teaching theoretical courses in connection with atelier design courses, increasing student participation, and emphasizing the importance of the connection between theoretical and design atelier courses during the term have been identified necessary. It’s thought by the students that some department courses do not contribute to them due to the fact that curriculum is not prepared with this approach. However, designs made by these people, who lack theoretical knowledge, are uncomfortable, have no characteristics and functionality. Based on the study conducted on the curriculum of Interior Architecture Department of European University of Lefke, it’s understood that it has been a necessity to reconsider the curriculum of Interior Architecture, the way the courses are taught in various universities and/or to make relevant arrangements in Interior Architecture Departments to be established.
